Meet it's spiritual successor! A new park creator/sim game will be coming out 15 years after the original OG back in 2003.

For those that don't know, JP:OG was created based on the success of the movie franchise, and they took the idea of a theme park creator and meshed that with dinosaurs. The result = a cult hit. Not a financial or critical success, but a game that players threw thousands of hours into.

On PC, it has a community that modded their version of the game infinitely. Modders are STILL modding the game with new dinosaurs, attractions, improved graphics, more missions etc. So the announcement is a welcome surprise to people who enjoyed the original.

Releases summer 2018 to coincide with the next JP movie.

I hope that halfway through, the park fails, the dinos escape, and the game radically changes

Operation Genesis had the ability to let that happen... if you were an asshole of a park manager. They had hurricanes in the game, and if you didn't build strong enough fences or shelters for guests, the hurricane could tear apart the park.

They also had missions (outside of the sim), where things go wrong in the park, and it's up to you to fix them. Such as raptors escaping, T-Rex going on a rampage etc. You would be in the helicopter trying to shoot the rampaging dinos. Plus a photography mode where you take pics of them, and try to get to safety.

Then there was a non-park mode, where you build a landscape and just fill it with dinos without enclosures. Basically an untouched wild land where the AI dinos can roam, eat each other, fight and reproduce.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/03/29/ ... lease-date

Official release date, June 12th. It leaked a few weeks ago, but this is the confirmation of the leak

Other details mentioned during a media day with the game:

- 30 dinosaurs at release, more coming with DLC..... a leak showed 40 slots + Hybrid genome (so rumors are we can splice dino DNA to create 10 unique dinosaurs)
- Includes the usual dinos (T-Rex, Brachiosaurs, Triceratops) and dinosaurs that have not been in the books or movies (c'mon Ultrasaurus and Argentinosaurus!)
- Will include DNA spliced dinos and dinos not seen yet in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
- You're in charge of 5 islands this time around.... not 1, but all Cinco Muertes from the book
- Jeff Goldblum is the main narrator as Ian Malcolm
- The parks can have a total of over 150 dinosaurs simultaneously in the game

I had this on Pre Order and have spent the last 2 nights playing building up Parks on 2 different Islands.

So far i am really enjoying it. As always with a Frontier Game you dont get a huge amount of help in the form of tutorials so have to work a lot of things out for yourself
but that can also add to the challenge and feeling of accomplishment when you do.
I guess before too long (or even already) there will be plenty of Youtube tutorials but i am having fun working out things for myself at the moment.

Its too soon for a proper review but my initial thoughts after a couple of sessions have been very good and i have found it very enjoyable so far.
In fact on both sessions Time really ran away from me and it was 2am before i realised it which is not good when i have to get up at 5:30am for work.

BTW the Graphics are amazing and i am only playing in HD at the moment. I really do need to sort out getting a 4K TV to make best use of the PS4 Pro on games like this.

I'm on Isla Pena right now, and that shit is a pain in the fucking ass.

Eventually I will do a more formal review, but I will say this. People who play park simulator games or any other type of sim game, will find it light on sim mechanics and light on the frenetic management pace these games could have.

For those who do not play sims games, and just want to enjoy making a park of dinosaurs and solving some problems, they will find the game enjoyable. This is where I fall on the spectrum, but I see the flaws of the management aspects of the game and criticism of the game that's valid.

There are some frustrating things that balance out the fun parts of the game. For example, animals that have a high need for grasslands & forest do not take into account the ENTIRE paddock. Their mood shifts based on where they are at that minute! So when my Brachiosaur wanders from the forest to the open area that Trikes like, they fucking panic. That shit makes them impossible to keep in a pen right now.

Some of the missions are stupid as fuck: Breed a T-Rex for a $300,000 reward. They cost $1.9 million motherfucker! So in order to setup a T-Rex, I have to lose 1.6 million?

On the positive side, trying to control raptors on Isla Muerta is a fucking nightmare, but funny as shit at the same time. Dracorex and Ankylos are angry motherfuckers who are impossible to keep happy. Isla Tacano is a challenge when you get there because you really have to think that island out before you take it on. That one is no joke to start (however, once you get going, it's an easy island to master).

Pena is an absolute nightmare, and you HAVE to know the money "glitch" at that point. And you HAVE to know how your dinos behave, because that island is where failure will happen, causing people to reset the island.

Have had 3 short sessions and have basically only just unlocked the 3rd Island but not gone there yet.
My First two Islands are going well so far.
I read that it did not seem to be taking in the whole paddock into account for their behaviour so i assume that is a bug and will hopefully get fixed as it cant be intended.

Yes some of them the Dino's seem impossible to keep Happy.
I got so fed up with 2 Dracorex that kept escaping i decided to drop them in the Ceratosurus paddock instead, 2 minutes later the problem was solved as they were feasted on

I am like you in that i am not usually into Sims games so i am mainly looking to just enjoy making some Dinosaur Parks and deal with the odd Crisis that pops up like in the films.
I will also look to go Platinum on this game as well as that is where the main enjoyment from a challenge perspective will come from for me.

This was a really easy game to platinum. I took my time, fucked around mostly, but could easily get the platinum in 30 hours of gameplay or so.
