Open beta will begin July 20th I think... you can try the beta if you want that day to make a decision.

Not sure if all the improvements the game made in the past 2 years will be evident in the beta, but for those who played at the start and quit, really missed out on the changes the game made that fans asked for over the years.

July 18th - PS4 early access beta begins
July 19th - XBone early access beta begins
July 21st - Open beta begins
July 23rd - All betas end
Late August - PC beta

The first 2 are for pre-orders.

The open beta will be for all non-preorders, so they'll have the weekend to play it.

It really did massively improve. The story never got better, because it's impossible to fix how bad the launch story was.... but they did make improvements.

Gameplay improve, quality of life in the game improved. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie falls into the same traps they did before, and then need to turn around and make changes to improve the game with DLC and patches.

Some more info. Edge Magazine played the entire campaign for Destiny, and wrote an article in next month's issue..........which people are already receiving. Some key details they added that hasn't already been told before:

- There are 80 marked missions in the game. Stories, strikes, raid, public event spots, Lost Sectors, Adventures etc. Considering Destiny 1 had 20 story missions, 5 strikes, 1 raid & unmarked public events, the content is actually quite a bump up from the original.

- When Edge played the campaign, they noticed they ranked up before getting through half the content. Since then, Bungie made changes to progression to slow it down. They want players to experience all the marked content, and add that ranking up. So you will not hit max rank just by finishing the campaign story now.

- There are 52 total cutscenes, including the opening. By comparison, Destiny 1 had 18. Edge also says that these cutscenes give far more story than the original and provide a more cohesive reason as to why this game is a sequel and not an expansion. (Whether that's true, or just there to sell articles and make Bungie look good is debatable).

- The final boss is a shapeshifter with a massive surprise. Ghaul isn't the final boss of the campaign, and is most likely the raid boss. The article says the final boss isn't something you will be expecting.

- Nightfalls will be on a timer. You must complete the mission within the timer to beat it.

- HOWEVER, when the first player in your clan beats Nightfall, the ENTIRE CLAN gets a reward. Not the Nightfall level reward (you have to earn that on your own), but a currency package.

- Some missions have locked loadouts. What you enter that mission with, is what you will have for the remainder with no ability to change subclass or gun.

- Energy weapons were explained a bit more. When taking down an enemy shield of the same element, it will explode causing AoE damage. It also kills guardians in a super faster in the crucible than a normal weapon.

- There is a perk for the golden gun, where a precision kill with the GG will drop 8 full orbs. Bungie confirms that 8 will once again be the maximum orbs dropped, but are tweaking the super energy amount they drop. Edge estimated it takes 12 orbs to fully fill a super.

And while I don't doubt the media is kissing Bungie's ass to make sure they get invited to future shit, here are some articles from other sites about what they thought of the game... some critical of D1 and stating the improvements D2 has made
