As the 1% minority who actually semi enjoys the campaign for call of duty and pretty much much it just for that this sucks. I end up running through the campaign a couple of times and play the MP for a couple of weeks before selling. Don't like Battle Royale so this killed what little interests I had.

All the rumors have been confirmed..... BO4 will not have a campaign, replaced by a Battle Royale mode. Key things to note:

- Blackout is their Battle Royale mode, and will be the focus instead of campaign.
- Specialists return. Instead of campaign, each will get a special mission for their backstory. So that's about as much campaign as people will get
- 3 Zombie modes, which have gotten even more ridiculous now........................ including a trip to the Titanic.
- 1 of the zombie maps featured melee weapons in a gladiator style arena.
- Traditional multiplayer will still exist as well.

And if this shit is successful, you know this will be the path of COD games (after Infinity Ward's next colossal fuck up)

So I guess what they really meant in the teaser trailer when they said 'Forget everything' is literally forget everything about all those characters and stories from previous games because there will be no campaign haha. I don't understand why they couldn't gives a campaign and the battle royal mode, I mean they had 3 years and it's not like the game looks vastly different from BO 3. A lot of people are saying it's BO 3.5, they've just removed the wall running and i kinda agree.

Fortnite makes $128 million a month from skins so the decision to abandon the campaign by Activision was a no brainer since you can't make money from it. With the Blackout mode they can focus on pumping cosmetics and what not up the ass. Fortnite however is a free to play game while BO 4 charges you $60 for just multiplayer and zombies.

TBH I enjoyed the campaigns up until BO3. I really thought it was slow and clunky with the story, and Infinite Warfare even more so. Having the Specialists have Spec Ops missions which act as a campaign is a great balance between having a dying solo experience and pushing people to the multiplayer side.

Three Zombies maps are a HUGE gamble for them, what with them having released SoE in BO3 and The Giant as a preorder bonus/ Season Pass exclusive. Having the maps be functionally different is also a great idea for them but on the flipside could separate the playerbase even more if less effort is put into them. The MotD remake looks epic, and features the Primis crew, while Voyage of the Damned and IX look fun to play. IX especially given its gladiatorial fighting style looks intriguing to play.

Considering their competitors in the Battle Royale space are free to play, I'd be curious to see how effectively they can compete while keeping their price top end. Although if the experience here is considerably better, I guess it's possible they might manage it.

I gave the H1Z1 open beta a try last night. It's fun but it could do with quite a bit of polish, currently feels more alpha than beta.

I would imagine this is going to be a lot like the Super Jumps and wall running. They're about to have a pretty good year in sales because everyone is going to want to try this out. It will encourage them to do it 2-3 more times until everyone says 'Enough, give us the Real Call of Duty back'. And it's just going to be rinse and repeat of Advanced Warfare - BO3 - Infinite Warfare - WW2 cycle.

Obviously they're long running loyal fans who run the COD Gauntlet every year are going to be in, they new fad will bring in some of the people who got burnt out by the repetitiveness of COD Online Multiplayer, and they'll probably pick up some run-off of people who were never COD players from the PUBG/Fortnite Battle Royale community.

Ultimately the fanboys who think this is going to beat out Fortnite are higher than a kite. I'm assuming BO4 (BOIV? BOIIII? how are we doing this?) will not have the Fortnite building mechanics, and yeah.... it isn't Free to Play. Plus COD is the giant colossus franchise it was 8 years ago. We can debate Treyarch vs IF all day for the exact top games, but I think we can all agree that BlackOps/MW2 were around the peak of the franchise, with BlackOpsII/MW3 being the plateau, and Ghosts being the first of a very long downhill slide for the franchise.

It's gone from 2010 being the top game on all platforms to 2018 on life support with Activision standing right above them with defibrillators screaming "Oh no! You dying on us yet fucker! We need another billion dollars and there is no way we're making a new franchise. Keep throwing on a new wig and pretending you're someone new!"

Actually, Activision has already lowered their forecast for the game, because they have a feeling RDR2 is going to steal their thunder away. They needed to beat RDR2 to the market to avoid what happened to Ghost when it released after GTA5, so they're in October for the first time. Which is ironic because most shooter games try to release in October to avoid COD in November! The same reasons companies avoid COD, are now being used by Activision!

EA is lowering Battlefield's forecast this year too dramatically. They REALLY paranoid releasing between COD and RDR, because this is what happened to Titanfall 2. Having 3 major releases on 3 consecutive weeks, that fight for the same audience means lower sales for everyone.

I can't imagine any publisher stupid enough to release in October at this point.

Honestly we should've seen the campaign thing coming. The writing was on the wall with Black Ops III. They totally could've included it on PS3 and 360 if they had wanted, but they wanted a safe test run on the old consoles to see if they could actually get away with that shit. That way, if it blew up on them, it would at least keep the backlash to a minimum because the large majority have upgraded to the current consoles by now.
