Data Stick

Postby nemsis66 » Tue May 18, 2010 6:57 pm

I got a new data stick as mine would not work in the laptop but would in the PS3

So i got a new one. This one ---> http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002 ... d_i=468294

But every time i put in the PS3 i get a pop up (like when someone goes on or off line) say that the PS3 could not read it

Can anyone help, as i would like a Data stick that works in the laptop and the PS3

I\'m not sure why it\'s not working in your PS3, and can\'t find any info on google about it either.

The only thing i can think of is plugging it into your laptop and checking the properties of the drive to see what file system it\'s formatted in.
A PS3 can only read the FAT32 file system.

Wow.. A bulletproof usb drive? That\'s a great way to protect your [strike]porn[/strike] data

I have a few different usb drives and haven\'t had a problem at all. Manc has a good idea.

Yep. I\'d bet the formatting is wrong.

Right click on the icon for the drive in your My Computer, Format should be one of the options..

As everyone says it will have come formatted as NTFS. You can\'t store files larger than 4GB on FAT32 either as I bought an external HDD to play MKV files off of and the 1080p ones are about 12GB so I have to stream them to my ps3.

EDIT - BTW that is a pretty expensive 16GB flash driv (I\'ve seen them between £20 and £30) but at least if someone shoots at you the data will be fine, it being around your neck though your face probably won\'t be do you have a bulletproof vest to go with it?

Your using a Mac aren\'t you? you have to format the drive using MS-DOS (which is the same as FAT32)

1) Place the flash drive on the desktop.

2) Start the "Disk Utility." Click on "Macally" flash drive. Use the "Erase" button.

3) Select the "MS-DOS File System" in "Volume Format."

4) Provide a new name for the drive. Click the "Erase" button.

5) Perform the instructions given on the screen and finish the formatting.

Disk Utility is in the Utilities folder inside the main Applications folder

Hope this helps

BTW:- If there are already files on the USB Drive the copy the to a folder before formatting as most come with pre-loaded software now, you can copy them back over later.

I\'m assuming that\'s what his flash drive is named as?

plug in/mount your usb drive
-open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility)
-select your usb drive
-select the Erase tab
-you are given a number of formatting options (i cant actually format my drive right now, but nothing is greyed out, so presumably it would work)
